Common mistakes

1. Using square pins on Pinterest

Square pins are deprioritized by Pinterest's algorithm. They show smaller in feeds and get less reach. Always use 2:3 portrait (1000×1500).

2. Same image for Instagram and Pinterest

Different aspect ratios for each platform. Instagram = 4:5 (1080×1350), Pinterest = 2:3 (1000×1500). Recreate from master image for each.

3. Files larger than necessary (10MB+)

Both platforms compress uploads. A 10MB file gets compressed to 1MB anyway. Export at 1–2MB to save upload time without quality loss.

4. Text or important content too close to edges

Both platforms add UI overlays (caption text, profile icons). Keep important content in the center 80% of the image to avoid being covered.

5. Forgetting branded/text overlay on Pinterest pins

Pinterest favors pins with text overlays explaining what the pin is about. Plain product images without text underperform branded pins with clear value props.
