Honest verdict
If it can't be made print-ready, we'll tell you — not upsell you.
What we check (and why it matters for Etsy)
Pixel dimensions
The single biggest factor. Pixels ÷ 300 = max inches at print-ready quality. A 3000 × 3000 image prints sharp up to 10 × 10 inches; for a 16 × 20 poster you need 4800 × 6000.
300 DPI metadata stamp
Many print shops reject files without a 300 DPI tag, even when the pixels are fine. Canva, Midjourney, and most browser exports default to 72 DPI. We always add the stamp on RatioReady outputs.
Sharpness score (Laplacian variance)
Soft inputs print soft. We measure edge detail using the same technique professional print labs use to flag suspect uploads. Sharp = ship it. Soft = consider re-exporting.
File format & color space
JPG and PNG are universally accepted. CMYK is fine for some print shops; sRGB is the safe default. We flag anything non-standard.
The cost of a blurry print
One "blurry print" review is worth more than a thousand views.
A single one-star review on a digital download listing collapses impressions for weeks. The Etsy algorithm weights review sentiment heavily — and "blurry" is the single most common refund reason for printable wall art.
The fix isn't complicated: check before you ship. This tool runs the same five checks a print shop runs on intake — in five seconds, before you spend a single credit. Once you know the verdict, the next steps depend on what's wrong: if your image needs more pixels, run it through the AI upscaler; if the DPI tag is off, the free DPI fixer handles that without changing pixels; if you're picking the right print size to target, the poster pixel calculator and frame size finder work backwards from the inches you need. To learn the underlying concepts, the DPI explainer walks through pixels, density, and print size end-to-end. If you're an ex-Smartmockups seller and the reason you're double-checking your file is that you don't trust your new mockup tool yet, the Switch from Smartmockups page covers the credit-priced PSD-compatible alternative we built for you.
